It seems like kids music is either super catchy and charming - or was created as an alternative to fingernails on a chalkboard...

I have found some good ones though - mostly from my childhood - "Free to be you and me" "Peter Paul and Mary" And I have recently fallen in love with Adam and the Couch Potatoes (I find myself listening to it all the time in the car...even when I'm alone!)

Anyone know of any great kids' tunes?

My daughter has loved the Flaming Lips since she became aware of music, especially the "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah Song" I'd like to think she's just super hip, but actually they have a playful sound (well, the newer songs that have less feedback) that kids seem to truly enjoy.

I've got some great ones - try Veggie Tales, the Donut Man, Adventures in Odyssey, and I really enjoy Worship Jamz 1, 2, and 3. They're all great, fun, moral, and enjoyable for mom and dad too. Hope you find what you're looking for! In His name, Lala.

They Might Be Giants - No! and Here Come The ABCs - are the only child-specific albums allowed in our house. As a musician, I just can't listen to most of the crap they're peddling for kids these days. We play good music, period, and don't focus on the age factor. Bacon loves everything from Mozart masses to Billy Joel ballads.

I second Elizabeth Mitchell. Also I loved Pete Seeger when I was a kid (I'm not THAT old). Simon & Garfunkle's "Cecilia" has a great beat that I loved when I was little.

They Might Be Giants has some pretty neat stuff.. I can't bare to listen to the majority of kids music without slitting my throat, so we play Noah Ethan everything we already listen to (provided no language).. He loves Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello and Mates of State.. It's super cute because I'll turn to him as we're riding in the car and he's rockin out and smiling to Jimmy Eat World.. It's the best thing ever...
Maybe I'm a bad parent because I refuse to let 'Kidz Bop' or the Backyardigans take over my stereo but whatever..

My favorite new music for kids is The Terrible Twos by Matt Pryor - He just came out with a solo album if you like him... He has two kids albums, but you can only buy them through his site. Here's his Myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&am...
