I'd say hell yes to a sun tent so he can hang out and play in there. Also: loads of baby sun screen, cover ups, waterproof diapers (they have them at Target I think, and they're amazing), sunglasses for the little sprout, a hat or six and toys :)

Hello, Mexico is a favorite family destination of ours. We have taken the kids at all stages and ages. We have always found Mexico very easy to travel in and the Mexican culture quite welcoming of families and kids.

In regards to what to take-Relax, You don't need a darn thing except sunscreen!

The kid will just crawl out beneath your sun tent anyways..... You probably don't want to spend your entire holiday chasing after your kid and trying to confine he or she to the shade. Just lather the sunscreen and let your kid explore.

Oh and be sure to open yourself an ice cold beer while you are at it.

We have taken our 12 month old babe twice both times with a bare minimum of equipment. She shared my suitcase...and still didn't wear or use half of what we brought. We bought diapers and baby food and snacks there (pampers, swimmers and gerber) for about the same price as in us and didn't take any 'baby equipment' except for stroller..she slept in a large chair pushed against our bed (instant cosleeper!)...we also bought beach toys and darling sun dresses there and had very stress free times. We are going again in 2 weeks!
I would say pack a hat, suncreen, onesies, a suit and a few favorite items.
He will be busy exploring all the new exciting things!
Every restaurant would make her something special no problem...avocado, banana, yogurt etc. They LOVE babies in MX. Enjoy!!!!!

the OP prolly has already left? But I have to say I've gone to Mexico with my one and then two kids 4 out of 5 years. I say you need sunscreen, swim dipes and switch out the sun tent for a swim shirt either solarveil or a l/s or short sleeve rash shirt.

we brought a tent one year- too HOT. We hung out under a umbrella at the beach anyway. ( most beaches have venders and umbrellas. You sit and buy a beer or soda for the lux of sitting. You can get food as well depending on the place. Enjoy, it's actually not that hard.
