Anybody else trying to use cloth diapers? We've done pretty darn well with cloth after 2 things - we accepted that we need a disposable for nights - cloth wasn't enough to get him through the night, and it was a little harder to do during the first 4 months, but it's gotten really easy now that he's eating a lot of solids.
If you're thinking about it but running into obstacles, try and figure out what you can do to use them as often as possible, and live with an alternative when you can't - don't give it up completely over 1 or 2 obstacles.
I 've been thinking about using them for a few weeks now, I guess I will give it a try, see how it goes...do you buy them on line or at a specific store or from where?
I've been buying from www.greenmountaindiapers.com - at least the outer shells (I like Bummis Super Whisper Wrap only) and the Imse Vimse liners (makes all of the difference), but got some of the diapers themselves off eBay. You could also try www.diapersafari.com (haven't had a chance to buy from them, but found out they're just down the street from me).
we have it, but never watched it...I'll take a look :) I really don't watch tv...sometimes my sis , from spain, ok?? asks me about stuff that happened here and I have no clue...LOL Then I ask my hubby and he says, yes I already know...I am totally clueless about what happens around me...LOL
Yeah, I was surprised when Discovery Home started talking about turning into Planet Green, but I think it's smart, and I always appreciate more environmental awareness, since buildings are the biggest consumers of electricity (therefore gas and coal).
I don't have the 1-sizer, I don't think.
I don't know about the books, but if you end up with Deirdre Imus's Greening Your Cleaning, let me know what you think. I got her Growing Up Green by her about raising kids "green". Haven't read it yet. And yes, it is that Imus - Don's wife.
We've used cloth diapers (with a service) for both our children for their first year +. I agree with the prefolds you need to resign to using a disposable at night . . .
About a month ago we switched to the Bum Genius diapers.(after the stars all aligned and we had a washing machine in our house). They are fantastic! I am so in love with these. Bought 14 diapers, need to wash every 1 1/2 to 2 days, but as she's a bit older it isn't the 15 diapers a day panic that it is in the beginning.
It seems to be a widespread problem that they are sold out. Try www.bunnyburybaby.com. They will be back-ordered, but they're nice. Tell them "shannon from pixel" sent you. ;)
Okay, we've used cloth since she was a couple weeks old. And we also have accepted some limitations but.... I know everyone is up on bumgenius (I have a couple too) but try Haute Pockets. They are cheaper, last really well and you can stuff the heck out of them with prefolds to get the absorbency you need.
Also here are my two sites of choice for cloth: softclothbunz.com and also nickisdiapers.com. Both of these sites have good choices, navigable web sites and great service. Try 'em!
And we do use them all night- as I said, we stuff with prefolds. Also, we have to report NO diaper rash of any kind and we generally LOVE them all.
My partner/ sweetheart and I have come to the conclusion that while it is good and well to encourage all to use them- this much poop may not be for everyone!
We have been using a combination of cloth diapers, gdiapers, and the seventh generation eco-friendly disposables.
We use the G Diapers the most. They are are compostable/flushable disposable insert. We were committed to using G Diapers from the very beginning, but had problems with their cover system. We purchased some cloth diapers and haven't been too happy with what we have. Then we figured out we could use the G Diaper inserts in the cloth diaper covers and we are very pleased.
We can't flush the G Diaper which are soiled because of our seriously old plumbing, but all of Emma's wet diapers we compost in our back yeard compst bin. They are gone in a week!
She still uses the Seventh Generation diapers overnight.
