We registered at Amazon -- it's great cuz they have pretty much every brand of everything. And we had a smaller Babies R Us registry for relatives who were afraid of doing mail-order. There's also this site, that lets you build a registry from the online stores of your choice: http://kazowie.com/index.php. Congratulations!
Crate and Barrel has just started a baby product site that allows registry. I wish that they'd had it when I was registering. Amazon has a registry, too.
In addition to Babies r us for the basics, I registered at www.WhatEveryBabyNeeds.com. They don't have the vast selection you'll find at an amazon or babies r us, but they have great, mostly organic clothing, natural toys, etc. that I just loved. I also found people buying for me were also happy to go somewhere other than a big box to get my baby a gift.
Check out myregistry.com, which allows you to register for any item from any website - it puts it all in one place and links to each site. Like any registry, everyone can see what's been purchased already. It was awesome for us because we weren't limited to the selection of items on one or two sites - we just chose whatever we wanted from any site. It also allows you to set up a Paypal fund which people can just contribute to if they like.
Hi Colleen, I highly recommend Kaboodle because you can create a registry by adding items from ANY site. I found it because a customer of my store www.chichibean.com used it. Its been a great experience for me as well as my customers. Whats great is that you are not at the mercy of of one particular store. Happy baby!
best, chiara
