My mother an I are in the middle of a serious debate -- does eating peanuts during pregnancy potentially lead to a peanut allergy later in life. My mother, a nutritionist, is constantly on my case not to eat peanuts or any other products with tree nuts due to the possibility that they could increase the baby's potential for developing a peanut allergy. Although I love my peanut butter, I want to do what is best for the kid. Does anyone have any experience and/or input on the subject?
Eat away! At least according to the latest study, which, you know, could change any time :) I'm pregnant and am eating peanut butter like crazy. I did with my last pregnancy also and my daughter never developed any kind of food allergy.
I highly doubt this! I ate lots of peanut butter (especially in the middle of the night), while pregnant with my first- and she has absolutely no food allergies. She's 17 months old now- and regularly eats peanut butter with no issues. I think maybe if you or baby's dad actually had other food allergies yourselves it might be an issue. Don't worry!
