Parent's Of Preemies

As a mother of a preemie baby, I found it very theraputic to share my story with other parents of preemies. Good or bad, an ear to listen is always helpful. Share your ups and your downs, because through support of others, things get better!

Brendonbb you are so right that the NICU is a roller coaster. My son was born on Easter at 28 weeks 6 days and has been in the NICU for 29 days. We didn't even consider NICU's when we selected our OB, but we have been very fortunate. The doctors, nurses and all involved are wonderful about making sure we are very involved in our son's care. We take it one day at a time and try not to worry too much about what may happen and enjoy where he is at right now.

My daughter Jasmine was born at 32 weeks 4lb 6oz 171/2 inches spent 40 days in the NICU at Ruby mem hosp in Morgantown WVa. she just turned 3, she is 38 1/2 in 35lbs spent her first easter in the NICU. This morning she got a real easter basket to open herself. We just found out last week that she is Autistic(high function) but she is healthy and that is all that counts, I will nver forget what we had to go through with her at first,BUT it does get better

I love your picture. Isn't it sweet of the volunteers to make those little hats for them? Do they do it at every hospital? I see those hats in all the pictures. I kept them and it boggles my mind that they were ever that small.

I wish your children nothing but hapiness and good health. Keep me updated :)

Thanks for writing. Our son actually came home a couple of weeks ago. Aside from a horrible diaper rash, he is doing amazingly well. Our daughter is still in the NICU. Going on 100 days. She has had her ups and downs. She had to go back on the vent a few weeks ago and has been off for a couple of weeks now and is on full bottle feeds which is a first. Everyday is something different though...

I am glad to hear that your little ones are thriving. It is always great to hear success stories and see that things turn out ok.

It is so hard when they are in the NICU. I am sorry to hear that they're in there so long. My twins were in there for 1 month and it seemed like an eternity. It is also difficult dealing with some of the hospital's nurses although I'm sure you've found that most are wonderful. I wish you and your family the very best. Mine were born at 32 weeks and are now thriving (and big) 18 month olds. BUT you never forget their preemie days.

I am glad someone started this group. It is amazing how few places there are for people to turn for advice and support when you really need it. Our miracle babies were born on Christmas day. They were truly miracle babies. My wife's water broke at 21 weeks (pprom). My wife was put on mandatory bed rest in the hospital and doctors prepared us for the babies being born at any moment. Chances were they would be able to stay in long enough to be viable. Defying all odds the babies stayed in for 2 months. Finally on Christmas day our baby with the broken sack began to have some distress so doctors decided we needed to deliver. Christmas day marked 28 weeks and 5 days. We hoped that this was enough time for the babies to develop.

Since their birth there have been ups and downs. At this point the babies have been in the NICU for 75 days. We have hopes that they will be coming home in the next few weeks. Life in the NICU is a roller coaster. There are good days and bad days. Good nurses and bad nurses. However, at the end of the day you have to be grateful for the gift that you have been given.
