Our family consists of me, my amazing husband, our beautiful daughter, one crazy kitten, two obese chinchillas, and the ants that occasionally invade our kitchen when we forget to do the dishes.
No more children are coming out of my body--we do hope to be foster and adoptive parents though.
How would you describe your parenting philosophy?
Relaxed, always conscious that we'll probably make mistakes and it probably won't matter a whole lot. At the same time, we feel the gravity of the responsibility to Ali, to each other, and to God of caring for and teaching and loving this wonderful new person.
What's your favorite parenting book (if any)?
The Bible, Shepherding a Child's Heart, Baby Blues
What are your family’s favorite books and toys?
Way too many books to list....and not too many toys. Ali's a big fan of the exersaucer, and a little plastic giraffe she chews on all the time.
What are your family’s favorite TV shows or movies?
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and The Biggest Loser.
What are your family's favorite foods?
Pizza and stir fry get rid of lots of leftovers, so those are perennial favorites. Anything with lots of color and flavor.
What are your family's favorite places to hang out?
We usually hang out at school, since my husband and I are both finishing up our last year of college. We like a little pub down the street that has 39-cent wings and allows kids till 9pm.
What one adjective would you choose to describe your household?
Unified
What do you see your kids doing when they grow up?
Whatever they want to do.
Describe your most humbling parenting moment.
When I finally had to give up on breastfeeding, it hit me that I wouldn't ever be able to do everything right, by the textbook. I would always have to compromise somewhere, there would always be flaws in my parenting that other people would criticize. That realization was humbling, but also freeing--I let go of the pressure to be perfect and instead decided to just be me.
