About My Family

My husband, son and I are brand-new transplants to Knoxville after living almost five year (or, in my son's case, his whole life) in NYC.

What are your children's names and birth dates?

John Alden -- 10 months

yes

How would you describe your parenting philosophy?

I try to pay close attention and let my son show me what he needs.

What's your favorite parenting book (if any)?

I like the Sears library, even if it is a bit much sometimes.

What are your family’s favorite books and toys?

My son is stuck on a constant loop of "Mr. Brown Can Moo. Can You?"

Personally, I favor any toy that doesn't make a racket.

What are your family’s favorite TV shows or movies?

We try to keep the TV off when baby is awake. But he is partial to the occasional Yo Gabba Gabba or Blues Clues.

When he's asleep, my husband and I have very low standards. We watched America's Next Top Model last night.

What are your family's favorite foods?

All three of us are adventurous eaters. We love to see the whole world represented at our table.

Alden would eat nothing but pickles if we let him.

What are your family's favorite places to hang out?

We just moved here. We're taking suggestions!

What one adjective would you choose to describe your household?

warm

What do you see your kids doing when they grow up?

I want him to be an actuary. I read once, years ago, that actuaries are very happy in their work.

Describe your most humbling parenting moment.

Oh man, they happen daily.
