You are being quite reductionistic. Her parents weren't in a bad mood or having a bad day. It was not an isolated incident. "Hashing be rehashing", as you put it is what humans do. We discuss things, attempt to understand and resolve. I don't think…

I'm so happy some of my words made you feel better;) It's eerie...my father in law has the same attitude...he doesn't want to rock the boat. My mother in law rules the roost and he would have to live with the consequences of going up against her...t…

Sigh... Your mom sounds complicated...I'm so sorry you don't have her support. I'm lucky it's only my mother-in-law. You may not have your mom's support, but you have your big sister and all your Babble friends rooting for you;) P.S How does your D…

Hi there!

How are you? How's your summer?
We just got back from Sweden last weekend and we're dealing with a terrible jet lag and W has also grown very attached to me so I can't be apart from him even for 5 minutes. I guess it's all the traveling.
I'm going to check out the eco museum you recommended next week and I'm hoping to do another trip to Granby Zoo and the Centre de la Nature in Laval.

The birthday was great we had a lot of fun and now when all the birthday's are done for the year we're preparing for our trip. We leave on Wednesday so it's quite soon. We just bought a small backpack for W so that he can pack his own toys for the plane and I'm doing packing lists and shopping lists and mental notes and forgetting to buy cat food so my cats are starving. It's a mess.
I can't wait to go though.
So how are you guys spending these hot summer days? Do you have a pool? We've been living in the wading pool in Park LaFontaine lately.

Thanks that's really good advice.

We had a better week the week after but W is now sick again. I don't know what's up with him he just gets this really high fever with no other symptoms and he's the worst sick kid ever. He doesn't get tired he gets full of energy so he runs laps around our dining room table all day and doesn't sleep at night so we're all exhausted.
We have a couple of busy weeks ahead of us W's birthday is on the 17th so there's the party for that and then it's mine and my sister-in-law's birthday a week later and then we leave for Sweden (we're spending July there). I'm doing all the prep now for the party figuring out what to bake and serve and how many juice boxes we might need. I'm took a couple of courses at University this spring so I just finished my exam on Monday so now I can finally catch up on TV and video games and all that stuff I haven't had time for.
A playdate sounds fun we should absolutely do that. What's the eco museum? Are there any animals there? We went to Centre de la Nature in Laval a couple of weeks back and it was fantastic, W got to go on a pony ride and pet goat and play in the biggest playground I've seen. I'm always looking for places to go that has stuff to do for kids, the plateau is alright but it's lacking goats and ponies!

We had a horrible week. W had a very high fever all week and we ended up at the emergency room with him. It seems to happen every time he's sick. He's better now but he's still very tired and grumpy. He's just hit his terrible twos and throws tantrums left right and center.
The language thing is alright, he's talking more and more and he's putting the Swedish and French word for something together like for more he says encoremer. It's cute but if you don't spend a lot of time with him you'll need a Wilhelm dictionary to understand what he's on about. I feel so bad when I don't understand what he's saying cause he looks so sad and confused when he has to repeat himself and I just can't figure it out.
Montreal is pretty amazing when it comes to the languages. I find that every English person I've met speaks French.
I can't do French courses right now cause my husband works evenings and it's very hard to find classes in the morning especially since most of my mornings are already filled with classes for W.
How was your week? Are there any great places to go or things to do with kids where you live?

no cookies for the little man before dinner I have got to find a better hiding place
I guess you're right about the French... I mean how hard can it be. I guess I just lack motivation.
I am learning with Wilhelm though... I know all the French words he says and that's quite a few right now.
Are you raising your kids bilingual?
We're trying to do trilingual and it's hard. But he's getting the hang of who speaks what language and now he's started doing some translating.

My husband is francophone and grew up in St hyacinthe. And because of this our child will have to go to French school which is killing me. I have tried to learn French but I find I have a mental block about it because it's being forced on me all the time.
I guess the only thing we can do to avoid it though is move to Sweden... which is a whole lot of trouble for something that should be our choice in the first place.
Anyway I could have this conversation forever but my boy is now climbing up to the top of the fridge to grab the cookie box so I'd better go save him before he falls down.

hi, my turn to apologize! time does move fast.
I'm Swedish I grew up in Sweden and I lived in England before moving here 4 years ago. I like Montreal it can be very pretty but also very ugly some days. I guess the only thing I struggle with is the whole French language protection going on here. I hate that it takes away my right to chose for my child. But the parks are great!

we hang around the plateau cause we live here and also Indigo downtown. We also frequently visit the biodome. We haven't ventured much out to the west island, we only went once to cap st jacques to look at the animals, but I hear it's very nice out there.

About My Family
My husband and I are, by coincidence (or some would say fate), both half Japanese and half Irish. Our lovely daughters are interesting mixes of the two. My first daughter, who is 3, will now say to people (when they ask...because they ask ALL the time) : "I got all the Irish". We're all kind of tired of the same question.
Oriana is blonde with blue eyes and Cara, who is 7 months old, is brunette with brown eyes.

Describe your most humbling parenting moment.
My father suffered a massive stroke in 1998 so he had to be under constant medical care at the Veteran's hospital. Oriana was born in 2006....she met her Grandad at the Veteran's Hospital when she was 5 days old and we visited 2-3 times a week for 2 years...until he became gravely ill. I sat Oriana down (she was barely 2 at the time) and tried to explain why Granddad couldn't sit up in his wheelchair anymore...while fighting back tears. She smiled, went over to her toy chest, got out her doctor's kit and exclaimed "I will make Granddad better!"
I was humbled by her deep understanding, by her innocence, by her compassion and by her love and kindness...all of which she displays everyday.
I love who she is.
