About My Family

Extremely busy. I teach at several community colleges, turning part-time positions into full-time, and I work a lot on online. My husband's commute is rather long and he works night, so we are, as the cliche goes, like ships passing in the night. I'm looking into going back for my Ph.D, and my husband's working on his B.A. Between me, Ed, and my mom, we've managed to keep Reed out of daycare, which we're happy about, but I still wish I had more time with him. I'd love to be a full-time student slash mom. Here's hoping!

What are your children's names and birth dates?

Reed Elliott, 13 months

Are you considering having more?

Yes

How would you describe your parenting philosophy?

I don't subscribe to a particular philosophy though much of what I do seems to align itself with attachment parenting -- I must say, though, that I'm getting extremely tired of the parenting "type" labels. I do what I think works, and I run my schedule around the baby's schedule as much as life permits.

What are your family’s favorite books and toys?

Good lord -- around here, it's doggies, kitties, cars and trucks. Nothing else matters much to Reed.

What are your family’s favorite TV shows or movies?

Not much time for T.V. and I'm not a believer in "baby TV".

What are your family's favorite foods?

Uh, whatever's around?

The baby eats very well. Me? Not so much sometimes.

What are your family's favorite places to hang out?

I don't hang. I teach a bunch of classes, am getting ready to start my PhD and hand with Reed. My husband and I are recently separated so things are a bit tough 'round these parts.

What one adjective would you choose to describe your household?

adjusting

What do you see your kids doing when they grow up?

Living an intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually fulfilling life. That's all that's important to me right now.

Describe your most humbling parenting moment.

Any number of them . . . really. Stories for a later date.

Who are you looking to meet on The Playground?

Perhaps other recently single or possibly single parents. Parents in my area with babies.
