Not always. The screening process and the probationary period is a pain. Your kids get attached to a nanny (because they see her everyday) and then you find out she's stealing. Or they do dumb stuff like run the bath and leave the kid just sittin...

I think a cheap daycare here in CA is about $125 per week. But I think that is more or less for something is only 3-4 hours and not all day. I really don't know what is appropriate to ask for. I've always had a nanny.

Furture me...please pay attention

A note to future me on this day before Thanksgiving....

Dear Amanda,

I had a few tips for you this Thanksgiving season, so if you have a few moments, please, read...and remember.

Under no circumstances should you be trying to brine the turkey while you have a little one in the room...yes he is very content and happy, but look at how close it is to nap time, and think of what you have your hands in...his Grandmothers would rap you on the knuckles if they knew that you couldn't attend to him wi… Continue

Perfect cut...

I can't say that we were POOR growing up, we probably were but it didn't always feel that way. Erin and I always got new clothes for Christmas, we didn't get the new wardrobes twice a year like some friends but we were a little spoiled by Grandparents. We never went hungry, we always had a place to live, pets, and a car that ran most of the time. It wasn't a luxury household, but if nothing else Mom and Mark always made it seem like things were ok. When I was young I might have wanted to do more… Continue

Bedtime for Bonzo...

My mom used to say that, especially when I was so tired I was falling over yet trying to stay awake...

I've been deciding lately that I'm a grown up and can stay up late if I want to...so not true...

Being up past midnight the past two nights has me in a bit of a barely functioning, punchy, sort of mode. Add to that the cold I am fighting and you have me trying to convince Ijah that laying in bed watching Mommys eyes close is a fun game.

So we missed story time today for that morning nap (he… Continue

On again off...

Whew...I'm tired.

The daily nap cage match, knee bouncing, teething fussing, bottle refusing, giggling, tickling, book reading, bottle practice, walking, smiling, sitting up, playing, crying, has me flat out pooped.

Why is it that no one tells you how tired you'll be...or maybe you just don't listen...but I am pretty damn sure no one in their right mind voluntarily has children if they KNOW for certain how tired they will be.

So I've come to the realization that God is testing me. Going from… Continue

The things you do for love...

Sherman and I have been trying to get Ijah back on the bottle. For some reason, be it teething, taste, comfort, ease, whatever, he has been FREAKING out every time we try to give him one. So for the past few days we have been trying different things. New bottle with a nipple that seems more like...well...a nipple. Warming the formula up more. Nipple shaped like his pacifier. Different people feeding him. Holding him in different ways. Walking while feeding. Different music. Different scenery. Me… Continue

in early 2007 i had obvious loyalties to hillary, then i thoroughly researched obama. due to his intellect, calmness & multi ethnic/cultural background it became inevitable. he has the distinct ability & perspective to identify & connect with & unite others unlike the average person. i've always felt it would take individuals similar to my daughter (she's black & japanese & as she says "not half of anything") to put an end to racial disharmony.

you've got that right! just let's not expect him to walk on water or single handedly cure the aids virus.

i spent the weekend contacting the undecided in Tampa, Florida & it seemed everyone i chatted with was for Obama! i & all those like me will be on that line with you. do remind your neighbors, colleagues, church-members & acquaintances to go out & vote as well! i look forward to the day when it's natural to refer to others as people instead of black, white, asian, gay, latin or multi-ethnic. stay cool.

hey, just got your note. another plot against obama sussed out, i'm more than certain he expects this sort of thing. it's a bleedin' shame. his young daughters should not have to fear losing their father this way. let's focus on his potential in changing the world & throw some prayer his way as well.
