My relationship with my mother is...well, strained. So when she asked me to meet her for lunch, I was like, "okay, I'll try". She wanted me to meet her at one of the tennis and golf clubs she belongs to. This place was weird, because this isn't her main stomping ground, so to speak. But I didn't think too much past that.
I'm there waiting on her, she shows up. She tried to guilt me for the kids spending the Summer with my mother-in-law. I let it go over my head.
Then she asked about my husband. I told her that we were fine. And we are.
A few minutes pass, then this guy walks up. He was about my age. Tall, handsome, had on golf gear. He looked normal. My mother waved. I didn't think much. She knew him, she waved. But then she stood up to greet him...then she introduces me to the guy. He sits down.
The guy orders something light. I'm getting confused. My mom convieniently excuses herself to the bathroom.
The guy just kept smiling. I don't like silence. I asked what his occupation was.
He asked me to tell him about myself. I tell him my story. He replied that my mother told him that my "arrangement" wasn't "ideal". I was a bit shocked. Not that my mother told someone that, but the fact that someone would repeat it.
I made a point to flash my new ring (my husband just bought me an over-the-top ring for our anniversary). The ring doesn't mean sh*t, but to a stranger, it's a symbol.
My mother came back after a while. The guy eventually eats and leaves...he leaves his business card of course.
I ask my mother what the hell was THAT. She came right out and said that he's young, single. Never been married.
I remind her that I AM married...with kids...and dogs...and fish...and maybe a reptile or something because Denim wants one, but I'm not sure if I want a 5 year old to be the caregiver of a live creature.
My point is; I'm establish. I don't need a new husband.
My mother told me that he wasn't a potential husband. He was a potential lover. A LOVER.
She's lost her entire mind.
And what makes it REALLY crazy? She has already told the guy to persue me as a lover!
That would explain everything!
My mother goes on to say that the guy frequents that particular club, and my husband would never know. It's in Orange County and we live and work in L.A County.
Pure insanity.
I told my mother she was indeed insane. I got up to leave.
When I called Kimberly (my bestfriend) she burst out laughing. Again. I need new friends.
