Step 1. Determine what your goal is, with keeping a baby book. Some
people love to scrapbook photos and other items in their albums, and
make notations. Some enjoy journaling, and keep record of every
doctor visit. Others want a simple fix--something sweet that has
questions and allows them to be led in answering or making notations,
and attach some pictures. These are people who would be frightened to
death, and overwhelmed with a blank page, in even the most beautiful
book.
Step 2. Once you decide how you will use this book, think of what
style you are looking for. There are many different types of albums
out there-- from a hard cover book, to binders with loose leaf pages,
and post bound scrapbook type albums. A ring binder is the most
popular style, according to baby boutique owners. Ring binders offer
the versatility of taking pages out, or adding more, while even a
more functional feature most moms don't consider-- being able to open
the book flat, to write.
Step 3. Consider content. This is often an afterthought, but
shouldn't be! This is the place you will house all of the treasures
for this little baby's tomorrow... your words!! This is what the book
is all about. Do you want a 1-year book? Or a greater span such as
2-5 year content? These options are all available. Make sure the
book you are buying is going to cover all the special days you want
to remember, for generations to come.
Step 4. Determine your price range. Baby albums range from mass
market styles available at large superstores and chains, to those in
your favorite decadent little boutique. Before you compare the
prices of albums, be sure you understand the quality of the product.
This is after all, the only baby album you will purchase for this
child. Out of all the things to skimp on for your little darling,
this will probably be one of those things you will never regret
splurging on. The most expensive albums available will be sadly,
those manufactured 100% in the USA, and often by hand. It is simply
more expensive to do business here. The companies that commit to
doing so, can not compete with the low pricing offered of companies
who print and manufacture in China.
Step 5. You now know what type of album you are looking for. You
know the style of content, type of book or binder, and the price
range you are working with. The fun part is next, just choosing a
look that suits you and your little baby to-be. Whatever you do,
make sure you wait to find the perfect book for you. Don't settle for
something that isn't what you want. You will spend more in money and
time, continuing to look and buying eventually--the one you really
wanted, when it does come along.
Remember this is something you will do for baby now, but the concept
we endorse is to offer it as a beautiful gift to your child, when she
or he is starting a family of his own. You can not imagine now, all
the treasured memories that will reside in that very special book...
the ones you never wanted to forget, and did. You will never regret
taking the time to choose the perfect baby album, and making it into
a priceless capsule of your precious thoughts.
