That's where I come from...

The most important monument of Gothic architecture in Romania lays in Transylvania and it is to be found at Hunedoara. Built on the place of a former Roman camp, it served as a defence stronghold, as well as a princely residence. Holds 3 huge pointed towers, a drawbridge and high battlements, 5 marble columns with delicate ribbed vaults support two halls, and Knight's Hall. 50 rooms today house a feudal art museum. It served as a fortress until the mid 14 C when it became the residence of Transylvania's ruler, Iancu de Hunedoara. Iancu upgraded the fortress and it soon became known as the most beautiful castle in Transylvania. Today you can see its Gallery, Maces Tower, the Knights Hall, the Council Hall, Chapel, and 100 ft courtyard. In the wing of the castle called the Mantle, a painting can be seen which portrays the legend of the raven from which the name of the descendants of Iancu de Hunedoara, Corvini came. (The Romanian word for raven is corb, from the Latin corvus) .

Many go to Romania in search of VAMPIRES AND DRACULA,
they are told to visit Bran. Little do they know that the places
they should really visit are Corvinesti Castle or Sighişoara.

I was a regular at the english language bookstore in Budapest too! I don't remember the name of the town that we stayed in while in Romania. It was a small town in the mountains (we went there for a week to ski). I think it was not too very far from Cluj-Napoca because we stopped there to eat while driving.

I read The Historian when I was pregnant - loved it! I visited in Transylvania in 2000 when I was a student in Budapest. It was so beautiful - I would love to go there again.

Thank you. Rebecca is beautiful, as well. She has a wonderful smile.

I felt bad when I left your group, but Cole's really a summer baby, so I felt like an interloper.

I really enjoyed learning about Transylvania - I didn't go far, but I'll look into it more. Hunedoara is beautiful.
